Corridor Therapy®

Professional support for children and youth after traumatic experiences in the school environment

Training description

After experiencing trauma, a child spends most of their day not in a therapist's office, but at school. It is there that they experience successes and failures, build relationships, encounter difficult emotions, and look for adults who will help them regain a sense of safety.

The first people who can notice a change in their functioning and have a real impact on the recovery process are teachers, tutors, educators, and school psychologists.

Corridor support is a way of accompanying a child on a daily basis—during breaks, before class, after a difficult event, or in a conversation in the hallway or classroom.

These are short, intentional interventions that help the child regain regulation, a sense of safety, and agency. The training demonstrates how to apply knowledge about trauma in daily school work and how to create an environment that supports development instead of reinforcing survival-mode functioning.

The program is based on current knowledge in the fields of trauma neurobiology, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and methods utilizing movement, play, and creativity.

Training objectives

You will understand how traumatic experiences affect a child's behavior, emotions, and development in the school environment.

You will learn to recognize signs of overload, stress, and dysregulation, and how to distinguish them from behaviors resulting from behavioral difficulties.

You will learn simple, effective ways to help children regain a sense of safety and emotional regulation.

You will discover how to use relationships, movement, play, and creativity as tools to support the trauma recovery process.

You will learn how to conduct short, daily interventions that can be applied during lessons, breaks, or individual conversations with students.

You will gain practical tools for collaborating with parents and building a cohesive support system around the child.

Training modules

The Corridor Therapy training consists of 2 training sessions. The entire program is planned for 32 teaching hours, including workshops, independent study, and practical elements related to working with youth.
